Role of the Toastmaster

Whatever type of event you are planning, there are many benefits to hiring Jane as your professional Toastmaster. The most obvious of these is the visual impact of her appearance in full traditional regalia, complete with red tailcoat and white gloves; the next thing people notice is the clarity and air of authority with which she makes her announcements and introductions.

However, much of the value Jane brings to your event is unobtrusive and discreet. She immediately puts your guests at ease. She liaises with the venue staff and any others involved, utilising her organisational skills to ensure that everything happens when it should. She supports and encourages all those with a part to play in the proceedings, instilling confidence and exerting a calming influence. She keeps your event running smoothly and to time. Above all, you and your guests can relax and enjoy your event, without stress or worry.

For your event you can expect Jane to undertake the following duties, as appropriate for the event (but bear in mind that with a few exceptions concerning protocol, anything and everything can be amended, re-arranged and tailored to fit your wishes and requirements, so that your event runs EXACTLY as you want it to run).

Before the Event:

  • Meet with you well in advance of the event to discuss and record your requirements
  • Offer advice on protocol and etiquette
  • Provide hints and tips for those who are to make speeches, or have other roles to play
  • Prepare all announcements and review with you

On the Day:

  • Arrive at the venue early for a thorough check of all the arrangements on your behalf
  • Liaise with caterers, organisers, photography and video teams and all other interested parties
  • Greet and direct the Host(s) and guests on arrival
  • Arrange the Receiving Line and introduce guests
  • Announce meals
  • Announce and lead in the Top Table
  • Announce speakers, toasts and other ceremonies as required
  • Keep a watchful eye and deal discreetly with any matters that may require attention.
  • Conclude the formalities
  • Act as Master of Ceremonies or compère as required
